I didn't know this game and it was a real surprise. One of the best platform-shooter games I've ever played. Excellent gameplay, colorful graphics, captivating music. Excellent

Good tech demo but it plays like a brick and look positively awful. Saved by the music only.

JimPower manages to be a title that takes the Ocs-Ecs chip set to its limit; Incredible and fluid multiple parallax, lots of colors in video albeit with a lot of dithering, more sfx music at the same time. In short, there would be nothing to complain if it were not that all this technical exposure is counterbalanced by a too marked rigidity of movement within a linear and punitive game scheme that does not require any reasoning. Doing something that is off the beaten path is tantamount to certain death. Undoubtedly JimPower is an important title in the AMIGA softeca but not the best.

Lots of colours, but the palette choice ends up in an eyesore. Put Risky Woods, The Plague, Mysterious Worlds, Adventures of Quik & Silva, Turrican, Ghouls 'n Ghosts, Wonderboy into a blender and you have Jim Power. The gameplay is very stiff. The enemies all follow a fixed path so it's rather easy to shoot them, gaps and spikes require pixel perfect jumps, but at least the hit detection is good.

The game has excellent graphics, great music, top playability.

The only big default/weak point of this game is the difficulty, totally absent, with the most stupid enemies of any amiga games. Everything is scripted, so this means that if you lose or do a game over, you are the problem. It is possibly to finish the game easily with 13 lives, all the smart bombs, without being touched by any enemies until the very last boss.

Attempted to play this in the competition but sadly find this game too difficult and frustrating to try for some kind of score. The only good thing is the music. The score graphics are barely readable.

Very good graphics, mediocre gameplay and awesome music. That's pretty much what this game is like. Nice to get back to it after so many years if only to hear those great tunes again.

Jim Power offers a strangely fun experience. It is a quite basic platformer/shooter with many playability flaws such as stiff jump controls or the inability to shoot and run at once. This game aims to be challenging but does so relying on enemy's patterns memorization and pixel perfect placements, ending up being unfair and frustrating. Said that, it has also an addictive quality that leads to many fast paced plays in order to progress. The impressive technical features play actually a large role in the replay value for this game that manages to be memorable despite its gameplay problems (6/10).

This game feels like public domain. Unrealistic colors, tons of dithering and finally strange and shallow gameplay. I guess the Amiga fans judge games by nostalgia. In some screenshots the backgound is much more bright than the foreground and you cannot tell where you are or where are the enemies!

Awesome tech demo (although questionable choice of colours, the A500 colour limitations are very obvious) but it falls short on playability. Overly long difficult repetitive levels and of course those horrible shoot em up sections.

A wannabe console game that falls short of the mark.

I raised my vote for this game, I've recently replayed it and I must say this is more of a shoot-em up than a platform, and as a shoot-em up it's a quite good one!

I completely overlooked this in the 90s : it looked so simplistic and dumb at first ! Now I find it amazing. This is pure arcade galore, very accurate, demanding but fair gameplay, never boring, served by an amazing engine and great music. Definitely in my Amiga top 5 with Disposable Hero, another title I overlooked in my youth.

Very, very poor. Yes, the tech is awesome, but the game is terribly boring: just moving in one direction, shooting at enemies already seen in other games... The Turrican saga is totally at another level! Vote 3/10

Probably my favourite Amiga game. Here is why. If you love platform games like myself you will love the bright and vibrant levels. The gameplay really gets no better than this. Each stage has three very different sections (platformer, shooter, and boss section). The music is just spot on and so is the parallax scrolling, apparently this was one of the most difficult games to code (see Wikipedia), I am just glad it was made, I keep going back for more and more. Play this you won't regret it.

Great presentation but also well designed levels and a perfect difficulty curve. I managed to complete this one back in the days after hours of fun.

Great game...one of the first platform game played on Amiga , graphics are so colourfull and detailed with a good Soundtrack , Jim Power hold player on screen with your action speed and ambient...

It´s a little hard and playability could be better but it´s a very good game in a whole Jim Power in Mutant Planet (23)

Graphically breathtaking, how many levels of parallax scrolling were going on there? Some good old Hulsbeck music too that accompanied a standard, but very enjoyable platform/shooter. Jim Power in Mutant Planet (25)

This is a good game over-all, and a scroller you'll want to play if you haven't already. It's tough in places, relying on timing and patience. The color-scheme (already commented on) is bright--some like it, some don't--but it is interesting. This is a well-made parallax scroller with good controls and nice 80's-90's arcade style music.

What's so great about the graphics? Sure, they're technically impressive, but the eye-searing background gradients are horrid. The foreground is only marginally better, with everything shaded in pink, green, and white - a decidedly unpleasant combination. And why does Jim himself look so dorky?

Anyway, enough about the graphics. Jim Power is basically a run-'n'-gun platform game interspersed with shoot-em-up sections. The actual platform-based levels are quite good, with a nice amount of variety to downplay their linearity (I particularly like the opening and closing floor tiles and the gems that pop out of the ground), but even those are let down by bosses that are anticlimactic at best and unfair at worst.

Between them lie the shoot-em-up sequences, and those are Jim Power's fatal flaw. They're repetitive and horrendously-designed, with overly durable enemies arranged in the dullest (and sometimes cheapest) of patterns, a massive player sprite that makes dodging needlessly difficult, and even lamer bosses than those in the platform segments. They drag on for what feels like eternity, and they clog up the game. Jim Power has five levels, but, with two of these worthless sections breaking them up, it feels more like three.

Somewhere in Jim Power is an engaging, fast-paced run-'n'-gun that's screaming to be let out. Judged as a whole, though, it falls far short of its potential.

At least the music's nice.

The graphics are a little bright, but are certainly colourful and wonderfully detailed. The music and SFX are by Chris Huelsbeck and are therefore of the highest quality. The programming is excellent - great scrolling and large enemies.

Gameplay? It is the best part! While it is linear compared to the likes of Turrican, the game is nonetheless superbly designed. The difficulty level is pitched just right (just try comparing it to the ridiculously hard Megadrive/Genesis version to see what I mean) and every time you lose a life you just know it is your fault. It really is flawless and is simply one of the best platform/shooter hybrids on the Amiga. It's just a shame it never got the recognition it so richly deserved. Jim Power in Mutant Planet (31)

Hulsbeck music is a great asset to this game, a platformer and scrolling shooter in one! Its a good game, very hard and thumb pounding to say the least. Cool graphics and fast play make this a good game to own for any amiga fan Jim Power in Mutant Planet (33) 7/10

Jim Power is in a single word intense. The progress is very varied, with enemies and obstacles in constant change. The huge sprites sometimes are bigger that the screen!.The screen is fullscreen and with piles of parallax scroll.I can't believe that the A500 moved all that together and fast! The first level music is of the best ones in Amiga! The game finishes too much soon lamentably. The gameplay is very good but...maybe it's very linear so there's no exploration unlike Lionheart or Turrican. The graphics are very good although they are not of the best ones.

Amazing graphics. A tad too disturbing and colourful at times, but great nonetheless. Worth playing if only for the soundtrack by Chris Hülsbeck.

Great graphics that, despite what it looks like in the screenshots, aren't difficult to see. Everything is well animated, too. The music is awesome, but that's to be expected from Huelsbeck.

The gameplay is pretty good. It's fairly difficult and Jim's short jumps take a while to get used to, but it never seems TOO blatantly unfair. There are better Amiga platformers out there, but it's still fairly fun. Definitely worth playing, if only to marvel at the graphics and music.

Classic arcade game but so well done! Awesome graphics and visual effects together with an excellent 'punchy' music. It's really hard tho (maybe because of the not so perfect playability). A sure value anyway!

Grat music but level 3 was my Jim Power in Mutant Planet (47) without cheats you can't reach the end
[edit]
Technically a 10 without doubt. Perfect graphics, dozens of lovely chosen colors on the screen. Absolute fantastic music. Sound effects and music played together, so no need of choosing music OR souund effects.
JP is quite hard, especially due to the fact you don't have any hitpoints. So - one hit = instant kill.
Many enemies, huge bosses. Would be good in the arcades :-)

Astonishing and in every-sense superlative game! This is one of the things everybody was expecting to find on the Amiga and only very few times we really found.
What would Amiga have been without original and amazing gems like this one (and Wings, and Lionheart and Shadow of the beast and Project-X, and Leander etc etc)?
Only crappy Atary ST clone...

I played this game in the last months I actively used my Amiga. Never played this much though. Graphically this is a very good game. Nicely colourful and with massive backdrops. Also sonically this is very nice with a decent soundtrack (not Chris' best work). The only thing is that this game doesn't have anything extra and it soon becomes more of the same. I lost interest after a while and that's a shame.

Graphics: 8/10
Sound: 8/10
Playability: 7/10
